# Use bseoa as an AI skill

A skill teaches your assistant how to install bseoa, build the right command, run the audit and explain the findings. One ZIP works in every assistant that can run commands.

[Download the skill (26.9.16)](https://download.blackseoanalyzer.com/26.9.16/bseoa-skill-26.9.16.zip) [Prefer tools your assistant calls directly? See the connector](https://www.blackseoanalyzer.com/en/mcp)

## Skill or connector?

There are two ways to put bseoa inside your assistant. This page covers the skill.

### Skill

Instructions the assistant reads. Works anywhere it can run commands. Downloads the CLI on first use.

### Connector

Nine tools the assistant calls directly. Desktop hosts today, browser hosts coming.

[Set up the connector →](https://www.blackseoanalyzer.com/en/mcp)

## Before you start

1. 1. **Get a license key.** Start the [free trial](https://www.blackseoanalyzer.com/en/free-trial): 14 days, every feature, no page limit, no credit card. Without a key every audit returns a license error.
2. 2. **Download the skill.** [bseoa-skill-26.9.16.zip](https://download.blackseoanalyzer.com/26.9.16/bseoa-skill-26.9.16.zip) is one folder, `bseoa/`, with a `SKILL.md` inside. In assistants that can run commands (Claude Code, Codex, Claude.ai) the skill installs the CLI itself when it is missing.
3. 3.

**Optional:** if the bseoa CLI is already installed on your machine, store your key once so every assistant can use it.

```
bseoa license store <your-license-key>
bseoa license status
```

`bseoa` and `black-seo-analyzer` are the same binary.

## Claude

### Claude Code

In the terminal or your IDE.

#### Skill

Unzip the skill into your skills folder, so that `SKILL.md` ends up at `skills/bseoa/SKILL.md`:

```
~/.claude/skills/                      (macOS / Linux)
%USERPROFILE%\.claude\skills\          (Windows)
```

Open a new session and type `/bseoa` followed by what you want.

#### Connector

For structured tools instead of the full CLI, add the connector:

```
claude mcp add bseoa -s user -- bseoa mcp
```

Add `-e BLACK_SEO_ANALYZER_KEY=<key>` if you did not run `bseoa license store`.

[Claude Code Documentation →](https://code.claude.com/docs)

### Claude Desktop

Uses the connector bundle. Nothing else needs to be on your PATH.

Download the bundle for your OS, double-click it, enter your key. Claude Desktop installs the bundled binary and stores the key as a secret.

[Windows bundle](https://download.blackseoanalyzer.com/26.9.16/bseoa-26.9.16-win32.mcpb) [macOS bundle](https://download.blackseoanalyzer.com/26.9.16/bseoa-26.9.16-darwin.mcpb) [Linux bundle](https://download.blackseoanalyzer.com/26.9.16/bseoa-26.9.16-linux.mcpb)

### Claude.ai (web and mobile)

The skill runs in Claude's code execution sandbox and downloads the Linux CLI there on first use.

1. 1. Go to **Settings → Capabilities** and turn on **Code execution and file creation**.
2. 2. Under **Additional allowed domains**, add `download.blackseoanalyzer.com` and the domain of each site you want to audit. The sandbox cannot reach anything else.
3. 3. Go to **Customize → Skills → + → Create skill → Upload a skill** and choose the skill ZIP.
4. 4. Start a chat: "Use the bseoa skill to audit https://example.com." Include your license key. Claude installs the CLI, runs the audit and explains the findings.

The sandbox resets each conversation, so the CLI is downloaded again each time and crawl history does not persist. For persistent history use Claude Desktop or Claude Code.

Team and Enterprise: an owner must first enable code execution and file creation, and Skills, under **Organization settings → Plugins & skills**. Skills are still uploaded per user.

## ChatGPT

### Codex CLI

Runs on your machine.

#### Skill

Unzip the skill into your skills folder, so that `SKILL.md` ends up at `skills/bseoa/SKILL.md`:

```
~/.agents/skills/                      (macOS / Linux)
%USERPROFILE%\.agents\skills\          (Windows)
```

Invoke it with `$bseoa`, or let Codex pick it up when your prompt is about an SEO audit.

#### Connector

```
codex mcp add bseoa -- bseoa mcp
```

### ChatGPT (web, desktop, mobile)

Skills live in ChatGPT Work on paid plans.

In ChatGPT Work (paid plans), upload the skill ZIP under **Skills**, then ask for an SEO audit and mention bseoa. Whether ChatGPT's container can download and run the CLI is being verified; if it cannot, use Codex CLI above or wait for the hosted connector.

Connector: coming. [See the connector page](https://www.blackseoanalyzer.com/en/mcp).

## Perplexity

### Perplexity for Mac (connector)

Needs the PerplexityXPC helper, which the app offers to install.

1. 1. Store your key first with `bseoa license store <key>`. The connector has nowhere to put an environment variable.
2. 2. Go to **Settings → Connectors → Add Connector → MCP**.
3. 3.

On the **Simple** tab, name it `bseoa` and enter the command:

```
/usr/local/bin/bseoa mcp --db-path /Users/you/bseoa-crawl.db
```

Use the absolute path; the helper does not read your shell PATH. Replace `/usr/local/bin/bseoa` with the output of `which bseoa` if you installed it elsewhere (the skill installs to `~/.local/bin`).

4. 4. Turn the connector on under **Sources** on the home screen, then ask: "Use bseoa to check what is wrong with https://example.com."

### Perplexity Computer (skill)

1. 1. Open the **Skills** page → **Create skill → Upload a skill** (the ZIP or just `SKILL.md`, up to 10 MB).
2. 2. Upload the skill ZIP, or just the `SKILL.md` file from inside it.

Running the CLI inside Computer is being verified. Until it is, use Perplexity for Mac above or wait for the hosted connector.

[See the connector page](https://www.blackseoanalyzer.com/en/mcp).

## Grok

### Grok (grok.com)

#### Skill

1. 1. Go to **Skills** on grok.com.
2. 2. Upload `SKILL.md` from the ZIP as a file, or open **Skill Creator** and paste its contents when it asks what the skill should do.

Grok can plan and interpret audits with it today; running audits from Grok arrives with the hosted connector.

#### Connector

grok.com/connectors → **New Connector → Custom**. URL coming. [See the connector page](https://www.blackseoanalyzer.com/en/mcp).

## Prompts to try

```
Audit https://example.com and give me the five highest-impact fixes.
```

```
Check only https://example.com/pricing. What would stop it ranking?
```

```
Crawl https://example.com, then show every page with a missing or duplicate meta description.
```

```
How will these three URLs look in Google? [urls]
```

```
Compare today's crawl with yesterday's. What regressed?
```

## Troubleshooting

### Every tool returns `no_license`

The connector starts without a key on purpose. Run `bseoa license store <key>` (or set `BLACK_SEO_ANALYZER_KEY` in the host's `env` block) and restart the host, since the license is checked once at startup.

### "command not found" when a host starts bseoa

Hosts do not use your shell PATH. Put the absolute path to `bseoa` in the config.

### `list_crawls` is empty after a crawl

Two different working directories, so two different `crawl.db` files. Pass an absolute `--db-path`.

### The skill cannot download the CLI in a web sandbox

The sandbox's network allowlist is blocking `download.blackseoanalyzer.com`. Add it where the tool lets you (Claude.ai does), or use a desktop host.

### Broken-link results are only linkedin.com, facebook.com or instagram.com

Those sites block crawlers by design. Your links are fine.
