# SE Ranking vs Screaming Frog: Suite Audit or Dedicated Crawler?

By [Seth Black](https://www.blackseoanalyzer.com/en/about) · Published November 01, 2026

SE Ranking is a cloud SEO suite whose Website Audit is one tool among rank tracking, keyword research and backlinks, from $129 a month with 250,000 audited pages a month; Screaming Frog SEO Spider is a dedicated desktop crawler at $279 a year per user with no set page limit. Pick SE Ranking if you want a suite and the audit is a bonus, and Screaming Frog if crawling is the job. Many agencies run both.

Prices and limits below were checked on 31 October 2026 on each vendor’s own pages.

## How do SE Ranking and Screaming Frog compare?

| | SE Ranking (Website Audit) | Screaming Frog SEO Spider |
| --- | --- | --- |
| What it is | Cloud SEO suite with a site audit | Desktop crawler |
| Runs where | Browser | Windows, Mac, Ubuntu Linux |
| Entry price | Core, $129/month, or $103.20/month billed annually | $279 per user per year |
| Audit limit at entry | 250,000 pages/month, 250,000 max per project | “Unlimited”, dependent on memory and storage |
| Higher tier | Growth, $279/month or $223.20/month annually; 2M pages/month, 1M per project | Volume pricing: $265, $249, $235 per license |
| Projects | 10 (Core), 30 (Growth) | Unlimited, limited by disk |
| Free option | 14-day free trial | Free version, 500 URLs, no time limit |
| JavaScript rendering | Yes, set in the audit wizard or Parser Settings | Yes, with a license |
| Rank tracking, keywords, backlinks | Yes: 2,000 keywords tracked daily on Core, plus keyword, competitor and backlink research | No |
| Command line | No (API add-on available) | Yes |
| Data stays on your machine | No | Yes |

All checked on 31 October 2026. SE Ranking’s page shows annual prices with “Save 20%”; $103.20 and $223.20 are exactly 80% of the monthly prices. Enterprise is “custom limits and pricing.” SE Ranking also sells an API add-on (+$29/month on monthly billing, +$45/month on annual) and an Agency Pack (+$69/month, annual only).

## How much do they cost over three years?

| Tool and plan | Three-year cost, one user |
| --- | --- |
| Screaming Frog, yearly license | $837 |
| SE Ranking Core, annual billing | $3,715.20 |
| SE Ranking Core, monthly billing | $4,644 |
| SE Ranking Growth, annual billing | $8,035.20 |

That comparison is fair only if the site audit is the part of SE Ranking you’d use. Most of what SE Ranking charges for is rank tracking, keyword research and backlink data, which Screaming Frog doesn’t have at all.

## Where does SE Ranking win?

- **It’s a suite.** Rank tracking, keyword research, competitor data and backlinks sit next to the audit in one login. If you need those anyway, the audit comes along.
- **Nothing to install, nothing to keep running.** Audits run on SE Ranking’s servers while your laptop is closed.
- **Client-friendly reporting.** Reports live in the browser, and the Agency Pack adds 30 client seats, white label for the platform and reports, and unlimited scheduled reporting.
- **A real trial.** 14 days of the paid product, compared with Screaming Frog’s free version, which is the full tool capped at 500 URLs but has no trial of the paid license.

## Where does Screaming Frog win?

- **No page quota.** A paid license crawls as far as your machine allows. SE Ranking Core stops at 250,000 audited pages a month across all projects, which a handful of large client sites can use up.
- **Price for crawling alone.** $279 a year against $1,238 or more a year for SE Ranking Core.
- **Configuration depth.** Custom extraction, custom search and fine-grained crawl settings are what technical SEOs buy it for.
- **Command line and headless runs.** Screaming Frog runs from the command line and can schedule headless exports.
- **Immediate recrawls.** Change a setting and crawl again in seconds, without waiting for a cloud queue.

## Which should you pick?

| You are | Pick |
| --- | --- |
| A small business or marketer who wants rankings, keywords and an audit in one place | SE Ranking |
| A technical SEO who mostly crawls | Screaming Frog |
| An agency reporting rankings to clients and doing technical audits | Both: SE Ranking for tracking and reporting, a desktop crawler for audits |
| Auditing sites over 1 million pages | Screaming Frog on a well-specced machine, or an enterprise cloud crawler |

## Is there a crawler without a yearly renewal?

If the subscription is what puts you off both, bseoa is a desktop crawler with a GUI and command line for Windows, macOS and Linux. It renders JavaScript with headless Chrome, exports HTML, CSV, XML and JSON, and has no page limit, for $279 once. It has no rank tracking, keyword or backlink data, so it pairs with a suite like SE Ranking rather than replacing it.
